ALBUM REVIEW: Boris- Pink

I first heard about Boris a long time ago, and quite frankly I didn't think they were a real band. The idea that a bands name would be called Boris was hillarious and inconviable. But lo and behold, a little while later after a visit to the Southern Lord Wikipedia page, I realized that they were real. Over time I kept on hearing high praise for this band, so when I did a Southern Lord order two weeks ago, I got the lastest Boris album to be realeased on American soil, Pink.
Boris are a Japanese three piece who play a very mixed type of music ranging from drone to garage rock. Over time, apparently, they've progressed from pure drone metal to a kind of "psychadelic hypnosis rock," which is the best term I can think of to describe the wonderful music that Boris have created with Pink. First off, the album is incredibly heavy. It's not particuraly metal, but the low end of this album pushes the rest of the music in a way thats incredibly heavy, but still very mobile. The first track, Farewell, is almost a ballad, but it keeps on going in a sort of melodic drone that really pulls you. The track really stands out ot me. The dense atmosphere of Farewell completely drops out with the next song, Pink. It, and basically the rest of the songs on the album up until the 10th track, are garage rockish songs that have a very heavy feel that really give the album it's bulk. No tracks is really stand out, but they are all exquisite. Although track 5, is actually a sludge metal song that really just sort of punches you in the midst of the rocking nature of the songs around it. Anyway, come track 10, which is basically an 30 second intro song for the next song, Just Abandoned My-Self, which reminds me of Death From Above 1979, only better. It goes for 6 or 7 minutes of this rock song with a different sort of riff, before devoving into complete drone for 10+ minutes. It's pure godliness, that's what it is.
I'm pretty sure the orginal Japanese version has a much shortened version of the last track, unless you get the Japanese vinyl. Be sure to pick up the Southern Lord version of Pink, it features better artwork, 3 awesomely illustrated perferated acid tabs, and a longer version of track 10. Overall though, Pink is a different sort of album, that deserves to be heard by anyone who matters.

Second Post

Right, so in a recent trend, some of my friends started blogs where they review albums, so I figure I'd hop on the bandwagon and do one too. I'm often bored anyway. I had this blog for a while, and I'll finally get around and start using it. Anyway, I'll post when I feel like it, which will probably be often, although I know no one is actually going to read this.Since I'll only review albums I listen to, I'll mostly be talking about metal bands, with a smattering of other shit.

Welcome All

So I decided to create a blog in order to leave comments on the Meatgrinders Emporium blog. Honestly I have no idea what I'm doing, but once I figure it out, I 'll probably review albums and post about random shit, in order to occupy my time.
